Goodwin in national quarter-final

DONCASTER Plant Works ABC’s Jake Goodwin booked his place in the quarter-finals of National Schoolboys’ Championships after outpointing Charlie Hall (York) in their Yorkshire Association Class 1 (38-40kg) final at Havercroft.

“He won 11-7 on points,” said coach Ken Blood. “He boxed well but he can box better.”

Joining him in the quarter-finals, being staged at the same venue the weekend after next, will be Lewis Booth.

Booth who reached the semi-finals last year, received a walkover in the Class 3 48-50kg class.

Blood pulled Nathan Rodgers out of the Class 2 36-38kg division after he contacted a bug 48 hours before the show.

“There were one or two good lads in his division and he would have had to be 100 per cent to stand a chance of getting through and that wouldn’t have been the case had I let him box,” said Blood.
