“I hear that his brothers Tyson and Hughie are coming to follow him - but I’m not worried about it” says the young gun, who travels from his home in Skegness three times a week to learn his trade at the Akademy gym, under trainer Mick Otter. “I want to get my name out there. This fight will add a little spice and will give me the chance to showcase what I can do” said Etches.

Jack comes from a pretty famous boxing family himself - his cousin is ‘Birley Bomber’ Adam Etches, who fights unbeaten Belarussian Dzmitry Atrokhau on the Kell Brook undercard at Sheffield Arena on March 26.

The teenage Etches is 10+6 so far in his fledgling amateur career having been persuaded to come to Dronfield by Adam and has since become East Midlands champion. “I started coming about a year ago and it’s been really good” said Jack, who wants to represent England.

“Adam has been my inspiration but I want to get out of his shadow, there is more than one Etches and I want to establish myself, turning professional when I am ready” said the college boy who has taken time off his studies to progress his boxing.

Trainer Mick Otter said: “We have worked on his style; he has now got power, the ability to switch-hit and possesses that rare ingredient of class. He has got speed and uses his angles. He can hit and move. He sparred with Adam and I think Adam was amazed how he came on.”

The Akademy has attracted Azerbaijani champion Azmat Murtazaliev who moved to the Derbyshire gym after trying his luck in the north east.
