Derbyshire boxer gets title shot at Bethnal Green

Derbyshire's Ryan Fields has a big opportunity to raise his profile on Saturday.

Rotherham promoter Dave Coldwell has secured him a shot at the English welterweight title against Johnny Garton at York Hall, Bethnal Green.

Fields, aged 23, has boxed seven of his 11 fights at iceSheffield but will challenge for the title in Garton’s back yard.

Belper-based Fields has competed in Denmark, Scotland and his last outing was in Birmingham, so he will be up for the challenge. Garton, 29, from Peckham, is the favourite with 16 wins, a loss and a draw.

Also on the bill is Barnsley’s Tony Cruise, 34, who will be looking for his seventh career win out of nine appearances at cruiserweight. He takes on unbeaten Swindon man Luke Watkins.

Sheffield journeyman Qasim Hussain has his 60th fight (three wins so far) against Kent debutant super featherweight Jack Raines.

n A seven-fight bill will be staged at Doncaster Dome on Saturday 14 May.
