Carr crashes on Bury bill

Have your say

Parson Cross light-welter Jason ‘Flying Scotsman’ Carr was always going to be up against it when he went in with Burton-upon-Trent novice Tom Shaw at Bury’s Castle Leisure Centre on Saturday.

He was though slightly unfortunate to be given a count in the dying seconds of the four round contest by Doncaster referee Michael Alexander having touched down after seemingly slipping on a ringside advertising toblerone.

That said, the tattooed Glyn Rhodes stabled puncher was heading for defeat anyway, his heavier opponent, a former national schoolboy champion whose record now reads 3-0 was always one step ahead and deserved his 40-35 victory.

Top of the bill action, an eliminator for the WBA super-bantamweight title, saw local favourite Scott Quigg improve to 22-0 with a seventh round stoppage victory over Venezuala’s Franklin Varela.
