'˜Buzzing' Kell Brook happy to follow in the footsteps of Naseem Hamed and fight at Madison Square Garden

Kell Brook is hoping his promoter can deliver a Sheffield date in December - but may just have to put up with with following in the footsteps of Naseem Hamed and fight at New York's Madison Square Garden instead!

Sheffield's former world champion wants a fight before the end of the year and Matchroom's Eddie Hearn has indicated December 8 as a possibility in his home city.

But with Sheffield Arena taken by a Steelers' ice hockey match on that date, that doesn't leave an obvious location.

Brook told The Star: "I told Eddie I want a fight before Christmas and he said he'd get one, no problem.

"We don't have a venue or an opponent yet, we will see what our options are" Brook said.

"There is a show in New York (December 15) Canelo Alvarez v Rocky Fielding I could get on.

"Or there is Dillian Whyte, at the 02 Arena in London on December 22."

Brook says he is 'buzzing' with confidence after a break from boxing and sees his first outing since stopping Siarhei Rabchanka in March as a "tick-over...although the opponent will have another agenda.

"I want to get a fight under my belt and then move on to something massive in the New Year." That could be Amir Khan, but only the Bolton many knows if he really wants the fight.

Former welterweight world champion Brook says he can get down to 147 lbs.

"I have spoken to my nutritionist Greg Marriott and I am absolutely sure I can get there.

"He told me I'd have to stick to a plan and it is a hard plan but I can achieve that and stay healthy."

*On December 19, 1997 Hamed took on Kevin Kelley at Madison Square Garden.

It was his HBO debut and first fight outside Britain and Ireland.

Around 12,000 fight fans including Donald Trump and Pierce Brosnan watched Naz knocked down twice but go on to win.
