BOXING sensation Kell Brook will fight again in front of a home crowd at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena on Saturday, July 7, writes The Star’s digital editor Graham Walker.
Today’s announcement follows the welterweight’s win over Matthew Hatton which attracted 10,000 fans to the venue and 400,000 Sky TV viewers, smashing records for non Pay-Per-View UK boxing.
Promoter Eddie Hearn, who is promising to reveal a big name opponent for a summer showdown, believes 25-year-old Brook is the future of British boxing and is closing in on a world title fight.
The Ingle stable boxer maintained his unbeaten record with a classy display at the Arena just over a week ago against his Manchester rival.
He successfully defended his own WBA Inter-Continental Welterweight title and claimed Hatton’s IBF International crown.
It topped a stacked undercard featuring Carl Frampton’s successful Commonwealth super bantamweight title defence, Kerry Hope’s shock win over Greg Proksa for the European middleweight title and Lee Purdy’s win over Adnan Amar for the English welterweight title.
Hearn said: “It was a fantastic night in Sheffield for Kell and for British boxing, and I had no hesitation in putting him on in the Arena again.
“Kell delivered in a big way against Matthew and proved he is worth the hype. Now we will deliver another big night for him against a top name that we will announce soon.”
