SHEFFIELD’S Kell Brook appears to have been given a date for his world title challenge - but he will have to go to America to take on the newly-crowned IBF welterweight titleholder Devon Alexander.
The pair will clash on January 19, at a location yet to be decided in the US.
Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn had wanted to bring the fight to Sheffield but announced on Twitter that a trip stateside is the more likely option.
He tweeted: “In principle we are happy with the terms and will now work to try and get this made this week.
“The venue looks like NYC (New York) or Vegas but definitely not St Louis.”
Alexander’s manager Kevin Cunningham said: “We’ve agreed to fight on January 19, and it’s going to be in the United States. I like the fight, and I never had a problem with the fight.
“We just wanted to make sure that it came to the United States, and that’s all that we wanted. We don’t have a problem fighting our mandatory, just come to America, where the biggest and best fights take place, and we can get it on.”
