KELL BROOK has been given a morale-booster from one of the boxers he detests most!
American Carson Jones was a foe that Brook admits “got under my skin” before the two battled at Sheffield Arena in July, writes Bob Westerdale.
Jones went the distance with Brook and has never been complimentary about the Sheffield welterweight.
But now Brook is to face Devon Alexander for the IBF welterweight title on January 19, Jones has suddenly become an admirer of the Brit.
“I am pulling for Brook,” he told BoxingScene.com.
“Hopefully he wins. I think he will stop Devon. Kell is very accurate where Devon is more of a flashy fighter. Like I said before I think he will end up stopping him.”
Perhaps Jones is trying to engineer himself another crack at Brook, should he win the world title.
Or maybe he is trying to curry favour in the UK, where he returns on December 8, facing Lee Purdy as part of Matchroom Boxing’s “Christmas Cracker” card at the Olympia in London.
Alexander v Brook will be aired by Showtime in the United States and Sky Sports in the United Kingdom. No venue has been set for the fight. But promoter Eddie Hearn says he will “look into chartering a flight or two for UK fans” for the fight.
