Jez Wilson’s hugely frustrating boxing career now stands at boxed 13 - postponed 14.

The Sheffield middleweight had been preparing to box Islington’s John Ryder on a televised Matchroom event in London a week today in what could have been a big breakthrough for the Crosspool fireman.

Ryder, whose unbeaten record fell to a points defeat in a Britsh and Commonwealth match-up with Billy Joe Saunders in September, has suffered a hand injury and had to pull out.

Wilson’s trainer, Glyn Rhodes, said: “Jez has got to be Britain’s most unlucky and avoided fighter. He has had more postponements now than he has had fights - it’s incredible.

“Ryder is quite high up the rankings and this would have been a good opportunity for Jez.

“Straight away I got on to John Ingle (matchmaker for Chris Eubank Jr) but there was nothing that could be set up for a replacement fight.

“It is just so frustrating for Jez.”

Another Sheffield Boxing Centre fighter Sam Sheedy continues to call-out Rotherham’s English champion Nav Mansouri.

Promoter AJ Hobson has offered £5,000 to Mansouri to take the fight.

But Mansouri’s promoter Dave Coldwell explained: “Nav had a technical draw with Matthew Mallin (accidental head in the first round in October) and we promised Mallin’s camp another crack, and that will happen at iceSheffield on February 7.

“After that the route we want go down is the British title (against the winner of this weekend’s Liam Smith v Mark Thompson light middleweight bout).

“The £5,000 offer was a decent one and I am sure, somewhere down the line, it will happen.”
