EVERYTHING is being put into place to ensure that heavyweight talent Carl Spencer can make it to the very top.

The 25-year-old from Bentley has been signed up by Sheffield-based promoter and manager Dennis Hobson and will be trained by Kevin Sanders, the former mentor of world champion Nigel Benn.

Big things are expected of the six feet seven former YIP amateur and Hobson plans to unleash him onto the professional scene in September.

Of his new prospect, Hobson said: “Carl’s a raw talent and we’re very happy to have him working with us.

“The penny has dropped with him, like it did with Jamie McDonnell, that if he takes it serious, he can really make it. He stopped Richard Towers as an amateur so he’s clearly got everything in his favour. Lonsdale have already committed to him so they’ve seen the potential too.

“Jamie’s leading the way locally but we’ve got loads of lads who can come in as part of his success and that includes Carl.”

Sanders is training another heavyweight in Matt Skelton and Hobson says Spencer will develop under his watchful eye and from the quality of sparring in Peterborough.
