AMIR Khan has taken another swipe at Kell Brook, claiming he has got a bigger fan base than the unbeaten Sheffield puncher - even in his own city!

Khan will lock horns with Julio Diaz next month in Brook’s home city and is confident he will sell out the 12,000 capacity Arena.

It is no secret Khan and Brook do not like each other but the duo have yet to collide in the ring. Brook awaits his IBF world welterweight title encounter with Devon Alexander in Atlantic City on May 18.

Asked whether fighting in Sheffield on April 27 is giving Brook, who has an unblemished record of 29 wins from 29 bouts, a little dig in the ribs to show what sort of crowd Khan can attract, Khan replied: “Definitely. We will sell out the Arena. That’s a fact.

“To be honest, Brook shouldn’t be focusing on my fight because I am not even thinking about a fight with him because I’ve got another opponent in front of me and he’s got (Devon) Alexander. He has to be focused on Alexander.

“I think it will just show I probably have more fans than him in his own city. It is a laugh in his face really.”

Khan added: “I’ve got nothing against Kell. I don’t care about him. I don’t even think about fighting him yet. He has to prove himself if he ever wants to fight me and then we would take the fight.

“But at the moment, he’s not even on my radar.”

It will be the first time Khan, a former light-welterweight world champion, has boxed in England since a six-round victory over Paul McCloskey in 2011. The Bolton fighter has never previously fought in Sheffield in his professional career.

“Being at home will give me that extra edge and make me want to win more,” said Khan, who plans on moving up to the welterweight division before the end of the year. “It will make a big difference.”
