Famous boxing gym to take part in free family fun event with bouncy castles, free chips and ice cream

The world-famous Ingle Gym will be moving to Concord Park for a special one-day event this week.

With the motto, ‘Born from champions. Built on movement’, the Ingle Gym is a legendary boxing institution in Sheffield which is renowned for harnessing the talents of some of the sport's biggest names.

Founded in the 1960s by the late Brendan Ingle, over the years they’ve fostered the talents of stars like "Prince" Naseem Hamed, Johnny Nelson, Kell Brook and Junior Witter among others.

The gym remains one of the finest talent factories in the UK, but also offers much more in terms of the community aspect in the sense that it teaches youngsters discipline, leadership skills while offering them a great opportunity to improve their fitness, while learning life skills from those around them.

“There is so much to be proud of in our community – we want to show it all off,” explained Labour councillor for Shiregreen and Brightside, Mark Rusling.

“Come along for the opportunity to try something new and have some fun, alongside people from all walks of life and every part of North Sheffield.”

Together he is teaming up with the Ingle gym to organise an event called ‘Come And Have A Go!’ which takes place at Concord leisure centre in Shiregreen on Thursday, April 9. It runs for three hours, starting from 12pm and running until 2pm, making it an excellent activity for all families and friends during the Easter Holidays.

The event, which also includes members of the Sheffield Hawks Rugby Club and Sheffield Wednesday Community Foundation, is designed to give everyone a chance to try their luck against a new generation of boxing stars in a fun and relaxed environment.

There will be four bouncy castles and music, as well as free chips and ice cream. The event is free and is open to all.

Luca Ingle, from the Ingle Gym Foundation, said: “People often think boxing isn’t for them, and for a lot of people the hardest part is walking through the gym door. This is a chance to come down, have a go and see what we’re about, in a relaxed way. There’s plenty on offer - just turn up.”
