Boxing: Fighting fit Jamie McDonnell defending Euro title tonight

FORMER world champion Clinton Woods believes the supreme fitness of boxer Jamie McDonnell will drive him to victory tonight.

Doncaster Dome fans expect a gruelling match-up as local boy McDonnell defends his European bantamweight title against Belgium's Stephane Jamoye.

But Sheffield's ex-IBF ruler Woods says: "Jamie is as fit as they come. He works his heart out and keeps going whatever is thrown at him.

"He is a good kid and and I hope he wins tonight and goes on to become top notch."

Sheffield promoter Dennis Hobson hopes McDonnell's laid-back attitude will aid him. He said: "Nothing fazes him. Boxers like Clinton and Bomber Graham were very uptight before fights, but Jamie lets it wash over him."
