Big-spending Bristol hold no fears for us, insists Doncaster Knights boss Clive Griffiths

The former Premiership club, who lost their 100 per cent record and top spot in the table when going down at Cornish Pirates a fortnight ago, are joint favourites with Worcester to be playing top flight rugby next season.

But having seen his charges sink Pirates at Mennaye Field on Sunday for the second time this season, director of rugby Clive Griffiths believes they can avenge a 24-12 defeat at Ashton Gate in November.

“They are a very good all-round side and their front-five probably cost them the same money we spent on our entire squad,” said the Welshman.

“We were leading them at half time down there and in with a chance but a 11-1 penalty count against us in the second half and a sin-bin killed off our chances.

“Pirates beat them, Moseley scored four tries against them on Sunday and we are going into the game on the back of two good wins so we are in with a chance.

“Sunday’s game was one of the best wins I’ve ever been involved in and that’s saying something.”

Former Wales and British Lions centre Gavin Henson is set to turn out for the visitors after making a try-scoring debut in the 52-24 win over Moseley following his move from Bath.

The 33-year-old played in two Six Nations Grand Slams as well as touring New Zealand with the Lions in 2005.

But former Doncaster favourite Glen Townson will miss out after being injured up in the warm-up on Sunday, as will fellow lock Mark Sorenson, who tore a bicep in the game.
