TOUR de France rider Ben Swift has welcomed world champion Mark Cavendish to Team Sky.
Swift, from Dinnington, looks set to ride alongside Cavendish next season for Sky after the team announced the Manxman has signed a three-year contract.
Swift, aged 23, who is close to finalising a deal to remain at Sky, told The Star: “It’s great news. He brings a lot to the team and I look forward to learning from him. He’s the best sprinter in the world.”
It is too early to say how the Sky team will line up but it seems certain that Swift, as one of the best young cyclists in the world, will have opportunities throughout the season to go for race and stage victories.
Gunnar Gronlund was the winner of Sunday’s A4E Monsal Hill Climb to claim the £200 first prize.
The Swedish rider beat local favourites Chris Metcalfe and Lee Baldwin into second and third with former national hill climb champion Matt Clinton just off the pace in fourth.
