The Sharks had led for the majority of the season curtain-raiser only for Manchester to outscore them by ten points in the final quarter to secure a 92-87 win and back-to-back victories over Sheffield for the first time in their history.

After a delayed tip-off due to Manchester arriving late at the venue, the Giants had gallantly kept pace with Sheffield throughout the game but trailed by five points heading into the final 15 minutes.

The Sharks lost the lead with six minutes to go and could not overturn the advantage.

Dirk Williams led the overall scoring tonight but impressive debuts from US duo Torry Butler and Mike McCall were key to Manchester's success as they netted 36 points from a combined 25 shots.

Sharks debutant Rene Castro bagged 12 points in front of a home crowd for the first time.

Sheffield host Surrey Scorchers next Friday with a 7.30pm start.
