Sheffield Sharks defeated Surrey Scorchers 69-78 in a very closely contested game at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford yesterday.
Sharks flew out into an early seven point lead after just two minutes, with five early points by Jerrold Brooks.
TJ Robinson added further points and a three pointer by Colin Sing closed out the first quarter with Sharks 12-28 in the lead.
Scorchers brought the second quarter closer, slowly chipping away at the Sharks’ lead, with K.C Ross-Miller hitting a three pointer to bring the scores level at 24-24 with five minutes of the half remaining.
Nick Schlitzer added another triple to send the Scorchers in at halftime 34-28 up, with the quarter score going 22-10 in Scorchers’ favour.
Surrey continued to develop their lead in the second half, stretching out to a 41-33 deficit with eight minutes of the quarter to play.
A quick timeout by Sharks coach Atiba Lyons rejuvenated his team and Sharks went on a nine point run to level the scores at 46-46 with two minutes of the quarter to go.
A three from Brandon Hogg closed out the action and sent Sharks into the final 10 minutes with a 48-52 advantage.
K.C Ross-Miller brought Scorchers back into the game, hitting a couple of three pointers to send himself to 14 individual points and bring the game to 53-58.
However the fourth quarter belonged to Sharks’ MVP Brandon Hogg, who scored a quick-fire nine points to really open up the gap between the two sides and ensure his team the 69-78 win.
Hogg ended the game with 11 points, three behind leading scorers ,captain Mike Tuck with 14 and Jerrold Brooks who shot 17.
Sharks’ traveling continues on 4 March in Plymouth where they take on the Raiders and on 5 March in Bristol up against the Flyers, before returning to the EIS Sheffield on 11 March to host London Lions.
