Sheffield Sharks fine start to the new season has been rewarded by three of the starting five making the BBL’s team of the week.
Power forward Mike Tuck, point guard Jimmy Langhurst and centre Justin Dobbins were key figures behind Sharks’ 99-56 destruction of Mersey Tigers, which has all but sent them through to the last four of the BBL Trophy for the first time since the 2006/07 season.
Tigers surprisingly beat Cheshire Jets on Sunday to keep alive their faint hopes of pipping Sheffield.
However, Sharks will need a meltdown of epic proportions on Friday night at the EIS, when Mersey visit, to throw away their 43 point advantage.
With three wins from three matches it seems odds on that Sheffield will enter the league season with their first goal accomplished of reaching the latter stages of the Trophy.
Sharks point guard Langhurst has performed well since stepping in for BJ Jenkins, who is still embroiled in a battle for a visa. Langhurst scored 22 points after knocking down three shots from distance and converting an efficient five of six from inside the arc against the Tigers.
Tuck yet again displayed his value to Sheffield with 17 points and nine rebounds against Mersey.
The forward also showed his shootiing range by sinking a perfect three of three from from beyond the three-poingt line.
And Dobbins made his second selection to the team of the week with an excellent box score line of 22 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, 2 steals and no turnovers.
