Sheffield Sharks spread some early festive cheer with a convincing 69-55 win over BBL Cup finalists, Glasgow Rocks last night. The Sharks, again without talisman point guard BJ Holmes, put up a team-based display to overcome their opponents from north of the border.
A lively start saw the Sharks take an 8-0 lead but Great Britain international Kieron Achara hauled the Glaswegians back into the contest to claim a 17-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. Sharks veteran Olu Babalola ensured his side remained in the contest during the second period with 12 of the 17 points scored but a late three from Tayo Ogedengbe saw the Rocks in front by 31-34 going into the locker room.
The Sharks were utterly dominant in the third stanza. An 11-0 run at the beginning of the quarter saw Sheffield break the Glasgow shackles and from then on there was no looking back.
The Sharks maintained a 55-44 lead going into the final ten minutes, and that lead was extended to 14 points as the Sharks climbed into sixth position - with road games against Surrey United and London Lions to come over the festive period.
