The Sharks must make a league title bid this season, says point-guard Ryan Patton.

With two matches against Worcester Wolves (EIS tonight) and at Leicester Riders (tomorrow) the Sharks can put the pressure on teams above them.

Patton says: “We have a lot of confidence. It wasn’t just winning the BBL Cup it was the way we played. We have realised just have much we can achieve as a team.

“Getting the win last week at Worthing Thunder blew off the cobwebs after two weeks without a match and now we’re into one of the first double-headers of the season against two talented teams.

“We have to maintain our focus and keep doing what has been working for us. Leicester have brought in James Whyte, who was with the Sharks a few seasons ago. They and Worcester are well-coached and tough to beat.”

Worcester and Leicester are fighting to get into the BBL’s top eight. Wolves boss Paul James says: “Sharks are in the hunt. Ryan Patton, Marcus Stout and Steve Dagostino are tough to deal with; the team’s heartbeat is Mike Tuck.”
