After a brilliant performance last Sunday away to the Glasgow Rocks, Atiba Lyons’ Sheffield Sharks will be looking to continue the momentum they have built to pick up their second win of the season tonight (7.30pm) against the Cheshire Phoenix.
However next-to-bottom Sharks have got to focus on tackling the problem that has plagued them this season, and that is their leaky defence.
They have conceded on average 85 points a game while only scoring an average of 83.
Sharks’ coach Lyons said: “We have to have less lapses, we had a lot of breakdowns for points late in the game.
“One possession we’ll have an easy lay-up, next possession we’ll have a good stop, we just need to be more consistent.”
Sharks will be looking to emulate the same sort of defensive performance as the one they showed against the Rocks on Sunday, keeping them to just 62 points - and scoring 90.
Upcoming opponents Phoenix recorded a 89-97 victory over the Sharks in their last encounter, and this will definitely be in the minds of the players come tonight.
Lyons will be looking for his shooters to shut down Phoenix’s key man Jordan Williams who scored a mammoth 36 points against Sharks.
The saving grace for Sharks this season so far has been their free-scoring style of attack.
This is mainly spearheaded by recent addition TJ Robinson.
The 6ft 8inches American gained BBL ‘Team of the Week’ status this week with his impressive haul of 23 points and 19 rebounds against Glasgow Rocks.
Lyons will be looking to 26-year-old Robinson and his fellow Sharks to get even with Phoenix and pick up their second win of the season, in an attempt to really kick start their season and move out of the bottom half of the BBL league.
