sharks director Sarah Backovic says the club aims to become a home for some of the best young British talent.

The appointment of Great Britain assistant coach Tim Lewis as Director of Basketball gives Sharks someone who knows the junior game inside out. Lewis will also be head coach of Sheffield Hallam University’s team.

Backovic said: “Tim will assist with the main team but more importantly will help us develop the infrastructure from the juniors upwards.

“We’re starting with the two university squads and we’ll be looking at the academy, which will all be overseen by Tim, Atiba Lyons (Sharks player-coach) and Nate Reinking. It makes sense to set up an elite programme that attracts from all over the country, young people who want to have a serious approach to basketball.

“That way we then have a pathway through education and basketball. We’re setting up those links that gives them the opportunity to be seen by GB chiefs.”
