The Sharks will begin the new season with a BBL Trophy group match at home against Cheshire Jets on Friday, September 30.
As The Star predicted, the Sharks have been grouped with the Jets and Mersey Tigers for the first phase of the Trophy.
In previous years Sheffield have generally been up against Newcastle Eagles and Glasgow Rocks in a bid to reach the competition’s last four. However, with Durham Wildcats joining the BBL this season the new boys have been drawn in North 1 with Sharks taking their place in North 2.
The Wildcats could be the first obstacle in Sharks’ path as Atiba Lyons’s team begin their bid for their third straight BBL Cup.
A top four finish in the league has given Sheffield a bye through to the quarter-final where they will have a home match against either Durham or Plymouth Raiders. Sharks beat Plymouth 96-84 at the same stage last year.
League action for Sheffield will tip off on the road at Guildford Heat on Sunday, October 16. Newcastle are the first league visitors on Friday, October 21.
