sheffield’s talented young basketball star Devon Van Oostrum was in action last night for Great Britain in their second match of the London Invitational Tournament tonight at the Basketball Arena on the Olympic Park.

Without NBA star Luol Deng, GB lost 70-75 against a strong Croatia team despite an excellent fourth quarter rally.

Former Junior Sharks point guard Van Oostrum, aged 18, was again impressive during his minutes on the court as he hopes to make the final squad for the EuroBasket Finals in Lithuania which start later this month.

Britain pulled within three of Croatia late in the match after trailing by 16 at the end of the third quarter, but were unable to hit the tying basket.

The tournament is packed with NBA players, not least the French team, which beat GB on Tuesday evening.

A strong third period from France saw then through 82-60. San Antonio Spurs’ guard Tony Parker poured in 13 points in the third quarter alone on the way to a game-high 23 as the French took control with a 26-9 quarter, and never looked back.

Great Britain play Serbia tonight, China on Saturday and Australia on Sunday.
