Sheffield Sharks earned revenge for defeat at Manchester Giants earlier this season with a comfortable victory last night at the EIS.
Young guard Nick Lewis was the star of the show for the Sharks with 20 points and an all-round display that showed the immense potential the Great Britain under 20 international has.
It gives Sharks three home wins this season with their two losses both coming away from the English Institute of Sport.
Early in the match neither team seemed able to miss as Sharks were pegged back by impressive play from Giants guard Stefan Gill.
The visitors led 18-17 after a two from Ingus Bankevics but Sheffield were dominant for the rest of the first quarter as a pair of Lewis threes book-ended a 14-3 run.
Leading 31-21 at the first break Lewis and the Sharks continued to pile on the points in the second period.
A 10-2 burst, which ended with a thunderous alley-oop by Lewis from a pass by BJ Holmes, put Sharks 53-36 up.
Five points by Sharks captain Mike Tuck and a three from Bankevics concluded the scoring in the first half with Sheffield 58-41 on top.
Manchester were much improved in the third quarter with Martyn Gayle being at the heart of their three-point threat.
Lewis kept Sharks well in front with a lay-up before David Watts’ triple sent the teams into the final period with Sheffield 77-66 ahead.
Giants scored the first points of the fourth quarter before Sheffield put the match away with a 16-3 run.
American Allen Payne hit five of the points in the burst as Giants buckled under Sharks unrelenting pressure.
