AN almost perfect night from Mike Tuck and Jimmy Langhurst led Sharks to a comfortable victory over Mersey Tigers last night at the EIS, writes Richard Fidler.
The pair missed just two shots between them with Langhurst scoring 32 points on just 12 attempts, while Tuck went one point better on 14 shots.
With both of Sharks main threats in such good form it allowed the rest of the team to have a relatively quiet night but it was more than enough to beat a hard working Tigers squad.
Sheffield began well and were soon 24-9 in front as Olu Babalola scored eight of his 12 points in the first quarter. After 10 minutes Sharks led 28-15 and although the Tigers battled back to 42-35 late in the second period a 6-2 run made it a double-digit lead (48-37) once again.
The impressive Sam Cricelli hit the last basket of the first half to draw Mersey to 48-39 but Sharks began the third quarter as they had the first to take control once again.
Colin Sing, Tuck, Langhurst and Zach Gachette all scored in an 8-0 burst midway through the period to make it 69-50.
Mersey hit the next six points but Tuck and Sing ended the quarter with a basket apiece to make it 73-56.
Sharks had their biggest advantage of the night at 80-60 as a 7-4 opening to the final period effectively sealed the match.
There was some good moments late on as Langhurst and Tuck competed for the honour of leading scorer and Sing once again showed he is developing into a mature player to go with his talent.
Sharks are at title contenders Plymouth Raiders tonight.
