The Sharks are safely through to the BBL Trophy last eight after holding off National League side Reading Rockets in Berkshire 85-73 today.

Nick Lewis led Sheffield’s scoring with 33 points as the Trophy holders eventually got the better of a strong Rockets team that has been a class act in the division below the British Basketball League this season.

Sharks had to work hard in the first quarter to gain any sort of advantage and although they led 14-12 after ten minutes they couldn’t build on it in the second period.

Reading briefly took the lead before Sheffield battled back to hold a 35-32 advantage at half time.

Level at 39-39 in the third quarter the Sharks put together a 9-0 run to take control of the match.

Leading 60-48 with the final period to play the Sharks advantage moved out to 17 before the Rockets began to slowly cut into the deficit.

They closed to 75-67 before a Lewis three, one of five he hit in the match made the result safe.
