SHEFFIELD Sharks hopes of finishing in the top eight of the BBL Championship and qualifying for the end of season play-offs suffered a blow in the north east last night.
The Eagles, well beaten in the BBL Cup final by Leicester Riders on Sunday, clinched a comfortable win over the Sharks, their ninth victory in the last 11 meetings between the two sides.
After the tip-off had been delayed, it was the Eagles who came out of the traps quickly and following a 10-0 burst established a 25-12 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
But the Sharks, looking to make it six wins in their last eight BBL Championship matches, kept battling and were outscored by just two points in the second period.
By the end of the third quarter, Eagles had increased their lead to 73-52.
However, the visitors restored some pride by drawing an entertaining and high scoring final period.
