Sheffield Sharks hopes of silverware this season now rest on making and then winning the play-offs after defeat in the BBL Trophy quarter-finals on Friday night.

London Lions beat the Sharks for the second time in seven days - this time at the Copper Box on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in the capital.

Sharks almost pulled off an amazing comeback in the fourth quarter though as they whittled away a 19 point deficit at 78-59 with just over four minutes to play to get back within four (84-80) on a BJ Holmes three with 10 seconds remaining.

However, the Lions star man, Lovell Cook, made two free throws to seal the match for his team.

Cook was once again difficult to contain for the Sharks as the American scored 22 points. Sharks skipper Mike Tuck also scored 22 points but Sheffield were unable to ever really gain a foothold in the game.

Their last lead in the match came at 16-14 in the first quarter on a Patrick Horstmann three.

After 10 minutes Sharks trailed 24-20 and by half time it was 44-39.

The main damage came in the third quarter as Lions out-scored Sheffield 21-12 to lead 65-51.

London stretched away in the fourth quarter before Sharks late revival, which proved to be not enough to worry the hosts.
