Sharks produced an epic fourth quarter comeback at Glasgow Rocks on Sunday evening to keep alive their hopes of finishing runners-up in the BBL Championship.
Newcastle Eagles clinched the title with a comfortable victory at Surrey United but Sheffield’s win from 17 points down with eight minutes to play shows they’ll be major contenders for the play-offs.
Trailing 62-45 Sharks allowed Glasgow to score just three more points as Olu Babalola levelled the game at 64-64 and Nick Lewis edged Sheffield ahead for good from the line.
Earlier Sharks trailed 20-18 at the end of the first quarter and were held scoreless for over six minutes in the second quarter as Sterling Davis’ team built a 39-28 half time advantage.
Sharks reduced the deficit to 49-45 but a 5-0 Rocks run capped by a Johnson three gave Glasgow a 54-45 lead with ten minutes to play. That margin was extended to 62-45 on Alex Marcotullio’s triple before Sheffield’s fight back began to make the long journey home much more palatable.
Sheffield play Worcester Wolves on Wednesday evening at the EIS.
