Sheffield Sharks stop-start opening to the season will tip-off again tomorrow night (7.30pm) at the EIS.
Sharks were one of the first teams in action on the British Basketball League’s opening night on September 18 when they took on reigning champions Newcastle Eagles.
Despite a solid team performance there was no surprise that a Newcastle team which has barely changed from last season’s four-trophy success triumphed 85-78 over a new-look Sharks.
However, since that night Sheffield have had two weeks without a match. The break will have given them chance to integrate new players into coach Atiba Lyons’ methods and also saw Reggis Onwukamuche leave the club with fellow American TJ Robinson taking his place.
By contrast, tomorrow’s opponents Cheshire Phoenix have already played three times – winning on the road at Leeds Force and Bristol Flyers and losing at home against north-west rivals Manchester Giants.
Whatever the outcome of the Cheshire match the Sharks will have another fortnight with competitive action before welcoming Manchester to the EIS on Friday, October 16.
