SHEFFIELD Sharks pre-season friendly scheduled for Saturday evening has been postponed, writes Richard Fidler.

The match against National League side Birmingham A’s has been called off due to the opposition being unable to field a team. It is possible that this game may be played at a later date.

The Sharks will be holding a practice session tonight which the public is welcome to attend from 5-7pm in the blue hall at the EIS - Sheffield.

On Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th September, the Sharks travel to Newcastle to continue their pre-season build up with an exhibition tournament.

Meanwhile the BBL has announced that the East London Royals, Sharks first opponents on September 21, will not be taking part in BBL Competitions for the 2012-13 season.

A BBL statement said: “The decision was reached following a thorough ongoing readiness review of the Royals Franchise, from which it was determined that the Royals were not ready for the Competitions for this coming season.

“The BBL will be working closely with Royals over the coming months to ensure the franchise is ready well in advance of the 2013-14 season.”

A Sharks official confirmed via Twitter that the club are hopeful of rearranging a match to fulfil the September 21 date at the EIS.
