The midfielder spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Oakwell and his deal from Hannover had the option to make it permanent.

The Reds have now exercised that clause, tying the 23-year-old down to a long-term deal.

The move is subject to international clearance and will officially go through in June when the transfer window opens.

Bahre extends his long working relationship with boss Daniel Stendel, with the pair having been together at Hannover.

Bahre took time to settle into life in South Yorkshire, but ended the season with 42 appearances and two goals as the Reds returned to the Championship at the first time of asking.

A club statement read: “Barnsley Football Club are delighted to announce that Mike Bähre has agreed personal terms to join the club permanently this summer from Bundesliga side, Hannover 96.

The transfer is due to go through when the window opens in June, pending the completion of the final paperwork and international clearance being received.”
