Symbol of Olympics heading to Sheffield

Have your say

The ‘Olympic Torch Tour’ comes to Sheffield on Saturday.

And while the torch being paraded won’t be the one used in the London 2012, it will give sports fans an idea of what to expect.

The Lloyds TSB sponsored London 2012 Torch Tour is an interactive roadshow which promises to bring the excitement of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay to local communities across the UK this summer. Visitors can have their photo taken with a prototype of Torch, learn about the history of the Relay, meet a local Olympic and Paralympic hopeful, play interactive games, and nominate someone who has made a difference in their local community to carry the Olympic Flame in the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.

The London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay will be a 70-day celebration, starting in the UK on May 19 2012, travelling thousands of miles and bringing the London 2012 Games to hundreds of communities across the UK. Around 95% of the UK population will be within a one-hour journey of the Flame and 8,000 people will have the chance to carry it, and with it a message of peace, hope, respect and friendship. The Relay is schedule to visit Sheffield on June 25.

Sheffield’s world heptathlon champion Jess Ennis was a guest at the Glamour Fashion Awards in London last night.
