THE South Yorkshire Schools Track and Field Championships takes place at Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster tomorrow.

Not only are county titles at stake but the meeting will be used to select the South Yorkshire team to compete in the English Schools Championships at Gateshead next month.

Ben Shields (Rotherham), silver medallist in last year’s English Schools senior 100 metres is entered for both sprints whilst other top sprinters are Abigail Bishell (Rotherham) in the senior girls section and Kristie Edwards (Rotherham) in the intermediate age group.

Natalia Hackett (Sheffield), gold medallist in last year’s English Schools intermediate 3000 metres, competes again in the same age group although her appearances have been restricted by injury.

Hague (Rotherham), English Schools junior pole vault champion, is now in the intermediate age group whilst Nicolas Cole (Rotherham) should do well in the senior vault.

In the middle distance events Tom Bains (Sheffield) is entered for both the 800 and 1500 metres at senior level whilst Fiona Bell (Sheffield) is listed for the 1500 and 3000. Josh Naisbitt and Joe Lancaster (Sheffield) should figure prominently in the intermediate 3000 and 400 respectively.

In the field events Adam Khan (Sheffield) goes for both the long and triple jumps and Joe Anderson (Sheffield) is entered for the intermediate shot as well as his main event the javelin.
