Tomorrow’s Northern Open Indoor meeting at the EIS, Sheffield has attracted a big entry.

City of Sheffield sprinters Ben Shields (senior men), Karla Drew (senior women) and Kristie Edwards (junior women) should be prominent in the 60 and 150 metres. Luke Cutts, recently added to the UK Athletics funding programme, is entered in the pole vault with Dearne ALC team mates Adam Hague and Nick Cole also in the field as under 20 competitors.

Joe Lancaster (Sheffield) is a strong contender in the under 20 2000 metres whilst his sister Amelia is listed in the under 15 1000 metres.

In the under 17 age group Essa Ahmed (Hallamshire) should do well in the 1000 metres as should Barnsley’s Toni Buckingham in the shot.

City of Sheffield’s Billie Jo Harris will be looking for win in the under 15 60 metres.

The meeting starts at 11:00 am. Jilly Woodthorpe (Barnsley AC) runs for the North in the Inter Area match held in conjunction with the Abbey 10K Dash in Leeds on Sunday.

She has not raced since finishing third woman in the BUPA Great Yorkshire 10K in Sheffield at the end of September. Shortly before that she was first British woman in the Great North Run. The course is a fast one and the standard is very high and so Woodthorpe will have a chance of beating her best time of 33:45 for the distance. Hallamshire’s Nicola Squires will also be looking for a fast time.
