Have your say

Katy Livingston, aged 28, is a modern pentathlete who competed at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. Born in Guisborough, her father is from Sheffield and she regularly visits the city to support Sheffield Wednesday.

What have you been doing today?

Training. Running, swimming, fencing lesson, riding lesson and fencing free play.

Who is your inspiration and why?

I spent my childhood watching my dad run in countless races and loved watching him, especially as he often won!

Which sports star did you admire when you were growing up?

I admired Kelly Holmes. I used to love watching athletics on the TV and she was my favourite athlete.

What’s your favourite other sport?

I love watching football, but don’t play any sports other than the five in pentathlon. Five is enough I think!

Who is the most famous person in your phone?

Ha ha. I don’t think I have a single phone contact that you would know. Unless there are any huge Pentathlon fans reading this who would know my teammates!

When was the last time you cried?

Two days ago!

Who or what are you most proud of?

I am most proud of my family. I love them all and they’re the strongest people I know.

What’s the best piece of advice you have received?

My mum always told me to follow my heart and do what makes me happy. I think that’s a pretty good way to live your life.

When did you know you were good at what you do?

I knew I was good at sport at school but it wasn’t until I actually qualified for the Beijing Olympics that I realised just how good I could be.

What one item do you take with you wherever you go?

My Teddy called Squashy. I’ve had her for 20 years!

What is the most nervous you’ve ever been?

I’m at my most nervous before the riding event at any big competition.

Do you ever doubt yourself?

Of course, doesn’t everyone?

What is your view on social networks like Twitter and Facebook?

Great entertainment if used in the right manner. I hate people who use Twitter to write abuse!

How do you relax away from sport?

I like walking my dogs, baking, and supporting the Owls!

Where was your last holiday - and would you go again?

I haven’t been on holiday for years. It was Singapore/Indonesia though, and I definitely would return there.

Do you cook? If so what’s your favourite - if not who provides that favourite meal?

I like cooking puddings the most, and my favourite is Chocolate Apple Betty. Google the recipe, it’s amazing!

What was the last book you read?

Tony Parsons - Men from Boys.

If you weren’t doing what you do, what would you do?

I’d probably be a teacher of some description. All of my family are teachers, as well as my boyfriend.

Tell our readers in your own words why you think we’re interested enough to interview you?

Does anyone really believe that they are interesting? I guess I’m a girlie girl who loves playing sport and following football. Most of my friends find it amusing that I get so passionate about the Owls and I don’t know many other girls that do!

Favourite TV programme?

I’m a sucker for X Factor!
