Hallamshire’s Hatti Dean leads Yorkshire’s challenge in the women’s race at the Inter Counties Championship at Birmingham tomorrow. Dean was the first Yorkshire runner in last year’s race when she finished ninth.
Yorkshire should challenge for the title. Included in their team is Hallamshire’s Nicola Squires. Although the team title is important to Dean, more significant is the fact the race serves as a trial for the World Cross Country Championships. Hallamshire duo Andy Heyes and Rob Little are in the team.
There are places for Rotherham’s Phil Hoole and former Rotherham man Jonathon Thewlis, now with Notts AC.
Three City of Sheffield runners are in the Yorkshire junior team, Jacob Clark, Adam Newton and James Gray whilst another Sheffield runner, Joe Lancaster, gets a place in the under 15 team. Jonathan Shield (Sheffield) is in the u13 line up following a series of top performances and he is accompanied by Sheffield team mate Alfie Manthorpe and Rotherham’s Devon Stead.
In the junior women’s age group, Steph Burns (Rotherham) and Calli Thackery (Hallamshire) compete whilst the u17 team is led by Hallamshire’s Fiona Bell. Also included is Bethany Ansell (Sheffield). Natalie Hackett (Hallamshire) and Eve Pound (Sheffield) get a place in a strong line up.
