ONE of the key figures behind Jessica Ennis’ success has been hailed as ‘world-class’ by Sebastian Coe.
Toni Minichiello, who has coached the Olympic heptathlon gold medallist since she was a teenager, was praised by Lord Coe during his visit to Sheffield this week.
Asked how Olympic stars could maintain their form after achieving the heights they did in London Coe, now chairman of the British Olympic Association, said: “The momentum is kept going by the great work of the National Governing Bodies and the extraordinary work of our world class coaches like Toni Minichiello who coached Jess.
“It is all down to NGBs, great coaches, talented athletes and good levels of funding. I’m pleased that funding for elite level sport is in place until 2016.”
Minichiello hasn’t yet had his contract for next year renewed with UK Athletics.
