London 2012 Olympics organisers have dealt a blow to Sheffielder Jessica Ennis’s hopes of a double medal strike.

Woodseats’ world champion will finish her heptathlon competition on August 4, but the heats of her second priority - the 100m hurdles - will start 36 hours later.

Coach Toni Minichiello had asked for four days’ rest between the events, pointing out how home favourite Michael Johnson was similarly aided in his attempt at a 200m and 400m double at the Atlanta Olympics.

However, that won’t be repeated at London for Ennis, and Minichiello fears the timing is ‘too tight.’ Medics will update Ennis on the nature of her calf injury today.
