Mukhtar Mohammed (Sheffield RC) runs the 800 metres at the Diamond League meeting at Birmingham on Sunday.

Mohammed, a contender for a British team place for the World Championships in Moscow, has raced outdoors over the distance three times this year, all abroad, with a best time of 1:46.65. The field is headed by Ethiopian Mohammed Aman but the Sheffielder will be more concerned about fellow British athletes Michael Rimmer and Andrew Asagi.

Also in the Birmingham meeting is USA based City of Sheffield runner Lee Emanuel who lines up in the 1500ms. With a season’s best of 3:38.61, he has the ability to finish high up in a good quality field.

City of Sheffield are at Wakefield on Sunday in the UK Young athletes League (Northern Premier 2) where they lie in second place to Wakefield. Doncaster head Chesterfield in Div East 1.

Their meeting is at Rotherham.

Hallamshire, second in Division East 2, are at Cleckheaton.

Local distance runners will be in action in the Penistone 10K on Sunday starting at 11am. Entries will be taken on the day.
