Hallamshire field a decent team in the Northern 12 stage road relay championship in Liverpool tomorrow.

Andy Thake, returning from injury, Rob Little, Bob Baker Tom Jenkins and Andy Challenger, all consistent performers throughout the winter, will spearhead the Hallamshire squad who will be looking for a top 10 placing. They include former international Carl Thackery, still good enough for a place in the team in his 50th year.

In the women’s six stage relay, national cross country champions Hallamshire are weakened by the absence of Hatti Dean who is away training at altitude, this time in the Pyrenees rather than Kenya.

Former marathon world record holder Khalid Khannouchi has announced his retirement. The Morocco-born 40-year-old, who became an American citizen in 2000, was a three-time winner of the Chicago Marathon and won the London Marathon in 2002.
