A host of the biggest names in UK athletics are set to compete in Sheffield when the city plays host to the Aviva Indoor UK Trials and Championships next year.
The event, which takes place at the English Institute of Sport – Sheffield, returns to the city for the seventh year in a row, from February 11-12.
As the penultimate trials before the Olympic trials in June 2012, the competition is a chance for the top athletes to make their mark and win a place in the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in March in Istanbul.
The big names set to compete in the championships, which will be televised on Channel 4, will be announced in the New Year but Sheffield golden girl Jessica Ennis is likely to join other big names such as Mo Farah and Kelly Sotherton.
Meeting director Ian Stewart told The Star: “I’d expect there to be a very strong field with it being the trials for the World Championships.
“Jessica is someone who has consistently performed at this event and takes the indoor season seriously as does someone like world champion Mo Farah.
“It’s always a good event in Sheffield at a great venue.”
