SHEFFIELD world champion heptathlete Jessica Ennis is the early 3/1 favourite to win this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year award - a competition she was a runner up in last year.
The Millhouses star, recently awarded the MBE, will be gunning for gold at this summer’s World Championships in South Korea, where she will also be aiming to eclipse Denise Lewis’ British record of 6831 points. Ennis is currently trying to shake off jet lag after competing in New York last weekend.
Heavyweight boxer David Haye is currently her closest challenger at 6/1 with William Hill. The current WBA champion’s star will rise further if he beats Ukraine’s Wladimir Klitschko. And Andy Murray will be a strong contender if he does well at Wimbledon.
As an outside bet, Worksop golfer Lee Westwood may be an option, especially if he wins the US Open, which starts tomorrow.
