David Thompson (Barnsley AC) won the Spen 20 mile road race at Cleckheaton yesterday taking the Yorkshire title which is held in conjunction with the race.
Thompson clocked 1:58:27 for the course, 40 seconds slower than he ran two years ago when he finished sixth, but still good enough to give him a winning margin of almost a minute and a half over Hallamshire’s Stuart Maycock. Maycock ran this race two years ago when he also finished one place behind Thompson.
A good run by Kevin Doyle led Kimberworth Striders to victory in the team race.
Leeds City’s Susan Partridge, using the race as training for the London Marathon, was easily the fastest woman finishing 11th overall in a field approaching the 300 mark. Her time was 2:10:54
Partridge was a late entry and therefore not eligible for the Yorkshire title which went to Claire Spencer of Kimberworth Striders.
