Andy Heyes heads the Hallamshire team in the English Cross Country Relays Championships at Mansfield tomorrow.
Heyes was the fastest runner overall in the recent Northern Championship where the Hallamshire squad finished fifth, missing out on medals by just a few seconds.
Heyes, who should challenge for the fastest time award at National level, is supported in the four stage event by Dave Archer, Adam Dyson and Matthew Hobbs.
Hallamshire also field a good team in the under-20 three-stage relay with Connor Milnes, Tom Bains and Josh Walton looking for a leading position.
In the women’s three stage relay, Northern champions Rotherham Harriers are looking for further success.
Sam Johnson runs the opening stage and she is followed by Annabelle Grady and Laura Spence.
Last year Rotherham were a creditable fifth with Spence their fastest runner.
Natasha Hatswell misses the race due to injury but Rotherham have a B team capable of beating many A teams in the strong field. Jess Fawcett, Steph Burns and Robyn Lanceley form a powerful trio which could get close to the A team.
In the younger age groups City of Sheffield are particularly strong at under 15 level.
They won the Northern title with in both the boys and girls races with Alfie Manthorpe and Emily Simpson their fastest runners.
