Ricky Reeves (City of Sheffield) won the 100 metres on the first day of the Yorkshire Track and Field Championships at Cudworth on Saturday. Conditions were cool and windy, but the wind was with the sprinters and Reeve clocked 10.75.

Hallamshire’s Andy Heyes, runner up last year, went one better in the 1500 metres winning in 3:56.07.

The best field event performance in the men’s events on the first day came from Matt Lambley (City of Sheffield) who retained his hammer title with a throw of 62.65.

Luke South (City of Sheffield) ran a good 200 metres to take the junior title in 22.23 whilst at under 17 level Adam Khan (City of Sheffield) was a double winner in the long jump (6.83) and triple jump (13.94) having plenty to spare over his nearest rivals in both events. There was an impressive performance from Hallamshire’s Natalia Hackett in the under 17 1500 metres. Starting the track season with the same success she had at the end of the cross country season, Hackett won comfortably in 4:48.87. In the same age group there was a double for Doncaster’s Nicole Bewley in the 80 metres hurdles (12.19) and javelin (35.06).
