After two decades when anglers have drifted towards commercial fisheries it appears the trend is swinging the other way as many grow tired with catching carp, carp and more carp.
Pleasure anglers in particular are returning to canals
Doncaster DAA committee member Ian Hurst said: “We work hard on promoting the benefits of our canals and it seems to be working as we now have over 700 members who regularly target the New Junction and South Yorkshire Navigation Canals.”
These are just two of the many local canals that offer a fantastic alternative to carp puddles for a variety of species. If ever proof was needed that canals can offer something different look no further than the sea trout caught by Doncaster angler Pete Webster from the New Junction Canal. Who could have predicted that?
