All eyes on the managerial merry-go-round

Have your say

I thought we’d look at a few manager markets this week as it is a bit of a speciality of ours. In League One we have a market on how managers will leave their posts during the coming season.

Last season 13 managers left, the year before that only six left, but the previous season it was again 13. Looking at the line up this time around we can see quite a few leaving for one reason or another. There’s about half a dozen we feel could be in trouble: Les Parry (Tranmere,) Chris Powell (Charlton,) Mick Wadsworth (Hartlepool) Dean Smith (Walsall) Greg Abbott (Carlisle) Terry Skiverton (Yeovil) and either Danny Wilson or Gary Megson.

Then there are managers who could leave for better things. Lee Clark, Karl Robinson, Russell Slade, Graham Westley, Paul Tisdale and John Sheridan could come into this category. It looks a volatile group so we are 7/4 that 10 managers or less go, 7/4 that 11 or 12 go and 6/4 that 13 managers leave their current positions. There is always the chance that a “double” happens if one manager leaves his club to go to another in the same division.

We’ve also got a new market for the up coming season in League One, and it concerns which club in Yorkshire will finish the highest.

The four clubs in the ‘mini league’ are Huddersfield, Wednesday, United and Chesterfield. I think Chesterfield could surprise a few. We are 13/8 about Huddersfield, 15/8 about Wednesday, 9/4 on the Blades and Chesterfield are 8/1. It should be a rattling good contest. Bet of the week is Deauville Flyer in the Northumberland Plate on Saturday at around 12/1. If the ground is soft it will be very close. Happy punting!
