Ale and hearty

SHEFFIELD's Malcolm Elliott has plenty of reasons to toast his success having just won the Newport Nocturne town centre race, taking home his weight in beer as part of the prize!

The 46-year-old Stannington-based rider won with some ease, finding himself alone at the front at around half distance and holding off the chasing bunch to cross the line around a minute clear.

A former winner of the Tour of Spain’s points competition, Elliott initially broke away with Tony Gibb (Plowman Craven ) and Chris Newton (Recycling.co.uk), but found himself alone and 18 seconds ahead.

Reigning British Best All-Rounder time trialer Kevin Dawson of Doncaster clocked an impressive 39 minutes to win his category in the British Circuit Championships in Cheshire.
